HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Like everyone else I’ve met lately, I’m wondering where the month has gone…and the year, for that matter.  The leaves here in Georgia are turning a beautiful array of red, yellow and orange….and starting to fall all over the yard.

Although Halloween isn’t my favorite decorate-the-house time of year, I still do a little bit to get into the feel of this time of year.  The picture above is what I sat on the end of my breakfast bar and then there’s the mandatory jack-o-lantern on the front porch.  Oh yes, and I bought a bag of chocolate candy that has been tempting me for the last few days, so I’m ready.

Fortunately, I live in a gated community, so the Munchkins are somewhat limited to the ones in our “neighborhood” (my husband calls it the compound since there’s a guard at the gate and one who drives around occasionally), but there are hundreds and hundreds of homes, so we’ll see if I bought enough candy.

But the weekend after Halloween, I’m looking forward to November 5th when I’ll be heading to Alabama to a Readers Luncheon in Birmingham.  I’ll be hosting a table of readers during the speaker and lunch and then signing books, along with a number of other authors, so it should be a fun day.  I’ll tell you more about that later.

Till next time, enjoy the fall beauty outside and don’t forget that I have a special guest visiting here on the blog this Wednesday, November 2nd.  Lisa Mondella, author of The Knight and Maggie’s Baby, will be here to share with us so don’t miss her!

  1. I always loved Halloween! I have no children, so I work with Tour of Southern Ghosts at Stone Mountain, north of Atlanta. Lots of great ghost stories. I don't carve real pumpkins, though.

  2. Happy Halloween to you too! I love the ittles who come to the door - some of them my friends' new grandbabies! Last year my mums were particularly beautiful right in time for the occasion, and many parents stood their goblins in my flowers for a picture.
I don't like to decorate all ghoul-ish;; my house is all orange pumpkins, with cobwebs all over the trees - it's actually pretty, because lots of leaves have fallen & they look like they're suspended in air.
And then I try to take all of it down by the end of trick or treating and put up my Indian corn and fall wreath. I don't like seeing Halloween into Thanksgiving.

  3. Happy Halloween and I love the decorations. I do have a witch on my deck, but we never have Trick or Treaters. That's fine with me. That's more cornbread for me. Just kidding. I keep the cornbread, but I do have a few pieces of candy just in case

  4. Mary,
How exciting! Do you lead tours? Work behind the scenes? I think that would be fun. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Hi Pam,

My trees are also fall colors...but already starting to drop leaves. The neighbor across the street has a young son, so their house is mega decorated...including a HUGE black spider on their front porch. (shiver)

    Thanks for dropping by.

  6. Hi Maxine,
It's a shame that you don't get any...even one would make the evening, I'd think. At least it's fairly warm for them tonight...not like up north. (Another big shiver, but for a different reason)lol

Thanks for dropping by and commenting.

  7. Hi Sandy! I love that flower arrangement and scarecrow. Very cute.

I do decorate a bit. Not so much this year since we are trying to sell our house. But I do have the wooden ghost cut outs in the windows (along with a turkey getting ready for next month), the cobwebs in the windows, and little decorative pumpkins all over the flat tops in the house. Not too much to scare potential buyers away, but enough that it still feels like our house.

As for those leaves... normally I love the falling leaves. But this year we have literally hundreds of trees and are going to have to scrape up a bunch of them soon enough. :) Should be fun... As long as there are NOOOO snakes.

    Have a terrific evening.

  8. cute picture! We don't get anybody at our 15 acres area, so we usually go to church or a friends church and help out with "trunk or treat" It's where people line the parking lot with their cars and you decorate the trunk and the kids go around and trick or treat in a safe way. Usually have a great turn out...especially tonight b/c it is beautiful fall weather...I really like the time change being after Halloween now so it's lighter when most of the little ones are out on the streets

  9. I love the Trunk or Treat idea. It was chilly here tonight, but clear, and not raining or windy. The kids had a great time.

Thanks for the compliment on the picture....I'm not very crafty or creative when it comes to decorating, so I'm surprised this little guy came out looking halfway good. :>)

  10. Hi Tami,

Snakes? There are snakes in GA? (just kidding)

I'm with you. I love to look at the beautiful leaves, but when it comes to raking...that's better left to someone a lot younger than myself. OR, if there are only a few, hubby just mows them with the riding lawnmower and they get picked up that way.

    Thanks for dropping by.

  11. Sandy,

Believe it or not, we didn't get one visitor. Each year we have fewer and fewer and this year not one. My sister called me from Miami and she let me listen to her visitors on the phone. There were tons of kids, so I celebrated Halloween vicariously. I think the problem is that we live at the top of a steep driveway and no one wants to walk to the top. I don't even walk down my own driveway.
